Your Yoast XML Sitemap Setup (Final, Correct Workflow)

You already have these open in your tabs:

  • WordPress General Settings
  • Google Search Console → Sitemaps
  • Old sitemap: sitemap-1.xml (from the other plugin)

This means you’re right at the finish line. Here’s exactly what to do next.

🔧 Step 1 — Enable Yoast’s XML Sitemap

In WordPress:

  1. Go to SEO → Settings
  2. Scroll to Site Features
  3. Ensure XML Sitemaps = ON

Yoast automatically generates:

https://humbletech.cloud/sitemap_index.xml

🔧 Step 2 — Disable the Old Sitemap Plugin

You still have sitemap-1.xml showing in Search Console. That means XML Sitemap Generator for Google is still active.

Do this:

  1. Go to Plugins → Installed Plugins
  2. Find XML Sitemap Generator for Google
  3. Click Deactivate

This removes the duplicate sitemap.

🔧 Step 3 — Verify Yoast’s Sitemap Is Live

Open this in your browser:

https://humbletech.cloud/sitemap_index.xml

You should see Yoast’s clean index file with:

  • post-sitemap.xml
  • page-sitemap.xml
  • category-sitemap.xml
  • etc.

If you see anything else (like sitemap-1.xml), caching is interfering.

🔧 Step 4 — Submit the Correct Sitemap to Google Search Console

In your open Search Console tab:

  1. Remove the old entry:
    sitemap-1.xml

  2. Add this one:
    sitemap_index.xml
    mkdir Document

Google will automatically crawl all sub‑sitemaps.

🔧 Step 5 — Clear Cache (Important)

If you use:

  • Cloudflare
  • LiteSpeed
  • WP Super Cache
  • SiteGround Optimizer

Purge cache so Google sees the correct sitemap.
